The Happy Feeling
I’ve noticed that “Happiness” is the hot ticket right now. New books seem to be released almost weekly as authors try to answer these questions:
- What do I have to do to be happy?
- I have accomplished so much, I have so much -- why don’t I feel happy?
I've asked myself these questions. Like most people I thought happiness was something to obtain or acquire. I was sure that the next realization or accomplishment would be the one that brought me ultimate happiness. And some of these things did bring joy and happiness but not the kind that lasted --the kind we are ultimately seeking. I wanted to be happy just because – not because of something.
When I was younger I would have certain moments where I would feel a strong sense of contentment...peace... love. I named it “the happy feeling” because I couldn’t think of any other way to describe it. I wondered what it was and where it came from. It was always out of the blue -- meaning nothing had happen to cause it -- it just occurred.
As I got older I tried to make sense of the “happy feeling” so that I could have it more often.
This past year I have noticed that I have “the happy feeling” more often and the moments seem to last longer. It is such a wonderful feeling -- and so obvious -- that I usually say something when it is happening, acknowledging the feeling to myself or whoever happens to be around.
I have a theory as to why I've been having this feeling more often. I believe the "happy feeling" comes from putting down all your baggage. It comes from letting go of your false and limiting beliefs. It comes from forgiving the people who have hurt you and forgiving yourself. It comes from healing.
It's those moments when you are free of the anger of your past and the anxiety of your future -- when you are living completely in the moment. That is where true happiness is.
The more I heal, the easier it is to be in the moment and for me to experience “the happy feeling” more often.
As you heal your stuff, who you really are starts to emerge and you will find that you are happier, for no reason at all, because that is your natural state.
