Time to Get Going!

Get GoingSome of you that know me know that I go to the gym regularly. I have been exercising my whole life in some form or another. Lately I’ve been just showing up at the gym, hopping on the treadmill for a while, and doing a few weights. Not a great workout but hey, I was showing up and being consistent.

I noticed this same pattern in various aspects of my life -- showing up, being consistent ... but not pushing myself or doing what really needs to be done to take it to the next level.

It's easy to make excuses and stay where we are ... while wishing things were different; and where we are may be good ... maybe even really good ... but .. .why not shoot for great?

So how do you to get going?

Do something! Make a decision and then commit to it.

Make sure you choose something you really want. It should also be challenging and fun!.

For me it was commiting to a month of classes at the gym. I usually stay away from classes for a variety of reasons-- but mostly because I don’t want to work that hard. I want my life to be easy and stress free. This doesn’t mean that I’m not willing to work hard it just means I can get lazy and lazy begets lazy.

So it was time to push myself. I knew I wouldn’t do it myself so I use the instructors as my coaches to challenge me.  Its important to know what is doable for you so you CAN make the commitment to yourself. Don’t pick something you hate. Pick something that excites you... and don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it.

By taking action .... doing SOMETHING ... you set change in motion.

My month-long commitment to gym classes motivated me to sign up for hip hop classes -- something that has been on my list for 3 years. By moving out of my “routine” it brought change and opportunity.
